Carpenter Back On Track, Throws For 10 Minutes

Chris Carpenter returned to a bullpen mound on Friday for the first time since experiencing a temporary setback in his recovery from nerve-related shoulder weakness.

The right-hander threw for about 10 minutes from a bullpen mound in 102-degree heat.

Carpenter, who was within five days of beginning a minor-league rehab assignment when confronted by renewed weakness last Sunday in Kansas City, said Friday he believes himself back on course.

"I think they have a little better feel of what's going on and I think the trip to Dallas was worthwhile," Carpenter said.

La Russa Mulling Over NL All-Star Roster

Tony La Russa is already thinking about which players he might add to the National League roster for next month's All-Star game.

La Russa retired after leading St. Louis to the World Series title last year.

When asked if Mets knuckleballer R.A. Dickey or Giants ace Matt Cain would start for the NL, La Russa also added Cardinals pitchers Adam Wainwright and Lance Lynn into the mix.

Matt Holliday Has Mystery Ailment

Matt Holliday left Sunday's game against the Royals with a mystery ailment that has plagued him for a while.

"Holliday left 9th inning with a persistent condition that has worsened or at least flared anew. It's not his back. Has roots to a month ago," Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch tweeted.

"[Mike] Matheny described Holliday condition as "leg"-related. That's a little broad. Again... Developing," he continued.

Holliday was 2-for-3 with a homer when he was removed.
