Mariners Not Yet Thinking About Sell Off

Mariners GM Jack Zduriencik said he has not thought about what he would do with tradable players such Erik Bedard, Adrian Beltre, Jarrod Washburn and Miguel Batista if this team is still in contention in July.

"Honestly, I have really not thought once about July ? about what happens in July," Zduriencik said. "I want to be in this position as we move forward. Being in first place and winning.

"I want this club to win. To win now. This year. And they've demonstrated that they can do that."

Padres Reacquire Burke From Mariners

After learning that backup shortstop Everth Cabrera has a broken hand, the Padres moved to reacquire Chris Burke from the Mariners.

San Diego traded the utility player to Seattle just three weeks ago.

Cabrera will have surgery and be moved to the 60-day disabled list this week.

"We are currently exploring options for his replacement, both internally and externally," Padres general manager Kevin Towers said Monday, prior to the move. "Our hope is to have a replacement in uniform prior to [Tuesday's] game with the Giants."

Ichiro Becomes Japanese Hit King

Mariners outfielder Ichiro Suzuki broke the all-time hit mark for a Japanese player with a sharp single in the fourth inning on Thursday.

Ichiro recorded his 3,086th hit, surpassing Isao Harimoto, who played 23 seasons in Japan.

"Mr. Harimoto, in 1995 -- 14 years ago! -- told me, 'The only guy who could break my record is you.' For him to have that vision of the future, for him to say that to a player that has only one year under his belt, I'm amazed," Suzuki said through his interpreter.

"I thought, 'What's this crazy man saying?"
