Mel Stottlemyre will not return as pitching coach of the Mariners next season.
He spent one season with Seattle after coaching with Joe Torre in New York for ten years.
"I had a desire to come back, but at the same time, I let them know that a new manager should be able to bring in his own coaching staff," Stottlemyre told The Seattle Times.
Former Athletics' and Mets' coach Rick Peterson is rumored to be a candidate to replace Stottlemyre.

The Mets have targeted Seattle closer J.J. Putz as their priority.
He is signed for 2009 at $5 million with an option for 2010 at $8.6 million or a $1 million buyout, which is a lot less than the expectation of free-agent closers such as Francisco Rodriguez and Brian Fuentes.
Because the Mariners are in rebuilding mode, they are likely to consider dealing the closer.
