Pinella Backs Cora

Cubs' Manager Lou Pinella gave an endorsement to former major league player Joey Cora on Wednesday, according to The Chicago Sun-Times.

"Joey's a good baseball man, a really good baseball man," said Pinella. "You never know till the person does it, but he certainly has the qualifications."

Cora has interviewed for a number of managerial vacancies in recent years.

"He knows baseball; he would command respect, and at the same time he's played in Seattle on good teams," Piniella added. "So, yeah, he would -- but, look, they have a manager there now, in [ex-Cubs' skipper Jim] Riggleman. And hopefully, Jim does a nice job, and he's considered. I don't want to get into those things."

M's Riggleman: 'I Haven't Seen Anyone Quit'

Mariners' Manager John Riggleman claims that he hasn't seen anyone on the team quit despite their dismal record, according to The News-Tribune.

"We talked about a , and staying positive," the manager said. "There?s a slight danger, after playing so many first-place teams the last few weeks, that we might have a bit of a letdown going into the Oakland series."

"We shouldn?t ? they?re ahead of us and a long way ahead of us. They?ve handled us pretty well.

"You?ve got to remember that we?ve got guys fighting for jobs, fighting for careers, fighting to establish themselves as major league players," Riggleman added. "I haven?t seen anyone on this team quit. Giving up is unacceptable."
