Ichiro Says Free Agency Is An Option

Ichiro Suzuki wasn't exactly dismissive of the notion of free agency on Tuesday when he met with reporters for the first time since reporting to the Peoria Sports Complex.

Ichiro, who is entering the final year of the four-year extension that he signed after 2003, also said the team's ultimate success in 2007 could play a role in his decision to return to Seattle.

"I have played 15 years of professional baseball, including Japan," Ichiro said, speaking through interpreter Ken Barron. "And I have never filed for free agency. So, I've never had the choice to choose for myself which road I want to take. I've never had to do that in the past. So, if you ask me 'Is it possible that I might go to free agency?' I would say 'Yes, it's a possibility.'"

Felix Very Impressive In Bullpen Session

After watching Felix Hernandez buzz through an ordinary bullpen session on Saturday, Mike Hargrove couldn't help but walk away feeling just a little impressed.

"He threw the heck out of the ball," Hargrove said. "There was a noticeable difference in how he threw and how everyone else threw. The ball just came out of his hand easier. ... When you have someone special like that -- even to the untrained eye -- it looks different."

Everett Remains Unsigned

Tampa's Carl Everett remains surprisingly unsigned, despite 23 homers in 2005 (White Sox) and 11 in part-time duty (Mariners) in 2006. Everett, 35, recently donated $25,000 to Little League's Urban Initiative Program, which will send a Tampa team to a tournament in Williamsport, Pa.
