Mariners Sign Reliever Ryne Stanek
The Seattle Mariners have signed reliever Ryne Stanek to a one-year contract.
Stanek, 32, has 23 postseason appearances, all but two of them with the Houston Astros the past three seasons.
He was 3-1 with a 4.09 ERA in the regular season last year after going 2-1 with a 1.15 ERA in 2022. It was the lowest ERA in Houston history for a pitcher with at least 50 innings.

It remains to be seen if the Mariners have reached out to Chapman, or are simply discussing the possibility since the third baseman is still on the market.

The Marlins acquired right-hander Darren McCaughan from Seattle for cash Friday after the Mariners placed him on waivers earlier in the week.
The 27-year-old McCaughan has pitched in five major league games, posting a 7.07 ERA in 14 innings. He made one start in 2021.

The Seattle Mariners have claimed outfielder Canaan Smith-Njigba off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Canaan is the brother of Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
In 105 games at Triple-A Indianapolis, the outfielder hit .280 with 28 doubles, 15 home runs and 74 RBIs.
Smith-Njigba was originally a fourth-round pick in the 2017 amateur draft by the New York Yankees.
White Sox Trade Away Gregory Santos, Cristian Mena
The Chicago White Sox swung a pair of trades with contending teams Saturday, sending right-handed reliever Gregory Santos to the Seattle Mariners, and right-handed prospect Cristian Mena to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
From Seattle, the White Sox received a package that includes a pair of players on the Mariners' 40-man roster -- hard-throwing right-hander Prelander Berroa and outfielder Zach DeLoach -- as well as the 69th pick in the 2024 draft. In the deal with the Diamondbacks, which was announced on social media by the White Sox, outfielder Dominic Fletcher goes to Chicago from Arizona and should be in the mix for playing time this year.
Mariners Acquire Samad Taylor From Royals
The Seattle Mariners acquired infielder/outfielder Samad Taylor from the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday for a player to be named or cash.
Taylor made his major league debut last season, appearing in 31 games for the Royals. He hit .200 with 11 runs scored and eight stolen bases in 31 games.
Twins Send Jorge Polanco To M's In Five-Player Trade
The Seattle Mariners and Minnesota Twins swung a five-player trade Monday, with second baseman Jorge Polanco going to Seattle for outfield prospect Gabriel Gonzalez, reliever Justin Topa, starter Anthony DeSclafani and minor league pitcher Darren Bowen.
The Mariners are also giving the Twins cash considerations. Both teams announced the deal Monday night.
