Soriano Appears To Be Staying With Cubs

It appears as though Alfonso Soriano will spend the remainder of the season with the Cubs.

Soriano, who vetoed a trade to the Giants last month, was placed on waivers.

Chicago is expected to address trading Soriano this winter.

Aubrey Huff Ready To Contribute In Stretch Drive

Veteran Aubrey Huff will likely be reinstated from the DL Saturday when rosters can be expanded to 40 players.

Huff knows that he probably won't have a prominent role in the stretch drive, but he shares Giants manager Bruce Bochy's hope that he can contribute as a pinch-hitter or late-inning replacement.

"It's a tough time of the year to go out there and try to find some timing," the first baseman said Thursday. "But, in the end, if you get the adrenaline going, none of that is going to matter."

Cashman Unsurprised By Cabrera, Colon Suspensions

Brian Cashman wasn't surprised by the 50-game suspensions Melky Cabrera and Bartolo Colon are serving for failed drug tests.

"Unfortunately, not surprised," Cashman said when asked about his impressions of the news.

Colon played for the Yankees last season, while Cabrera was traded to the Braves after the 2009 season.

"You see some spike in performance," Cashman said. "You hope it's not the case, but you scratch your head and you wonder at the same time. But then you sit there and get a comfort level: Tests are taking place, so if people are passing their tests."

Cabrera had a .906 OPS before his suspension.

"When we traded him to Atlanta we had him as a low-end, everyday regular or an excellent fourth outfielder," Cashman said of Cabrera. "And that's how we show where we thought his ceiling was. As you know, he was starting for us in the World Series, but we had him as a low-end, everyday guy, not a National League MVP candidate. So I wasn't surprised."

Mota Back With Giants After Suspension

Giants reliever Guillermo Mota has been activated from the restricted list after serving a 100-game suspension for his second positive drug test, according to an ESPN.com report on Tuesday.

Jeremy Affeldt has been placed on the paternity list to make room on the roster for Mota.

Giants Like Ross, But Red Sox Want To Keep Him

The Giants would love to add an outfielder before the month is over and they like Cody Ross.

However, the Red Sox want to keep Ross and there is no way he would make it to San Francisco through the waiver process.

The Giants acquired Hunter Pence last month, but the 50-game suspension of Melky Cabrera has left their offense thin once again.
