Cain Looking For 'Fair Value' In Extension Talks

The Giants aren't close to agreeing to a contract extension with Matt Cain.

The right-hander said Saturday that he's seeking a deal of "fair value."

San Francisco COO Larry Baer declined to comment on the status of talks with Cain's agents, but added, "Any time you're talking, it's a good thing, and we'll talk. ... It's been a lot of back-and-forth conversations."

Cain, a two-time All-Star who can be a free agent after the upcoming season, is a leading priority for the Giants.

Lincecum Says He's Healthy

Giants right-hander Tim Lincecum went all out during his bullpen session Thursday and reported that he felt just fine.

The two-time NL Cy Young Award winner said he took a precautionary route after feeling some tightness in his back earlier in the week.

Lincecum threw off flat ground on Wednesday and was on target Thursday throwing to Chris Stewart.

Giants Tell Posey Not To Block The Plate

The Giants have instructed Buster Posey to no longer block home plate when a player is trying to score.

"I'll take this out of Buster's hands," manager Bruce Bochy said.

"As a manager, that's my job. I certainly don't want people to think he's backing off on his own. It's something we'll work on with him this spring."

Bochy explained there are ways to make the tag at home plate without putting your body in harm's way.

"I've already talked to Buster about this. There are ways to make the tag without putting yourself in jeopardy," he said. "I don't want him to block the plate right now."
