Giants Ready To Turn The Page On Title

The Giants won the World Series roughly four months ago and they are ready to turn the page and begin their title defense.

"We had our great offseason and enjoyed the aftermath, but today's Day 1 and we have to start over," said Cody Ross, the NLCS MVP. "That's over with and we have to start now and do it again."

An MLB film crew is following the team's every move for a television series.

Posey Prepared For Increased Workload

Buster Posey, preparing for his first full season as the starting catcher of the Giants, is ready for an increased workload.

San Francisco wants Posey on the field as much as possible and he could see some time at first base.

"I think I'd like to play as much as I could to where I was going to be fresh enough to make contributions," he said.

"I'd like to be out there as much as I can. I'm not in any way going to put a number on how many days I'm going to have off. I guess it'll kind of be a 'feel' thing. I don't know how much I'll have a say in it."

Wilson Has Title-Clinching Ball Stored In Candy Jar

Giants closer Brian Wilson, who recorded the final out of last fall's World Series, has stored the ball in a unique place.

"I don't have a huge case for it," Wilson said. "To be honest with you, I put it in a Halloween candy jar. It was a delicious treat winning the World Series. I pick it up once in a while, play catch with it and toss it around."

San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy wasn't surprised to hear the story.

"I'm not sure he should let that get out," Bochy said. "He's asking for a mob to break into his house to get the ball. That seems appropriate for Wilson, though."

Lincecum Motivated By Fear Of Failure

As Tim Lincecum prepares for the 2011 season, he's motivated more by his rough August than San Francisco's World Series win in October.

"That was the lowest of lows I think I've ever gone through," Lincecum said, recalling the 0-5 record and 7.82 ERA he recorded in August. "I mean, five losses in a month. I'm lucky it wasn't six, right?"

The Giants right-hander recovered admirably to post a 5-1 mark and a 1.94 ERA in September. Then came a 4-1 postseason, garnished by a 2.43 ERA.

"I think sometimes fear can be the best motivation, especially in my situation," Lincecum said.

As a child, he added, "I kind of lived by being fearful. I was always the smallest one, and whether it was football or basketball, I didn't want to get killed or 'stompled' on or crushed or anything like that. It was always like, coming into the year, am I going to be able to hang with all these big guys?"

Christian Signs Minors Deal With Giants

The Giants have signed outfielder Justin Christian to a minor league contract.

"I've had a lot of my friends throughout the years that got drafted and had an organization believe in them from the very beginning, but there's a totally different side to it, and that's where I come from," said Christian.

"I had a different mind-set than a lot of guys do. I always play as if I was going to be released every single day, and I put everything I have into it because every day could be my last day to play."

Christian split the 2010 season between the Yankees' Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre teams, hitting a combined .289 with nine home runs, 55 RBIs and 22 steals.
