Giants Keep Slim Playoff Hopes Alive

The Giants beat the Cubs on Sunday, but know that they'll have to get lucky to make the postseason.

"We have to win all of our games and they have to lose all of their games," outfielder Eugenio Velez said of the Rockies. "That's how we have to look at it. We have to keep playing."

San Francisco, which lost three of four to Chicago, trails Colorado by five games in the race for the NL Wild Card. In addition, both Atlanta and Florida stand between them and the Rockies.

Penny Enjoying Time In Bay Area

Brad Penny has enjoyed pitching for the Giants, according to ESPN's Buster Olney.

Olney added that there is a good chance that Penny could return to San Francisco next season.

The right-hander landed with the Giants after he was cut loose by the Red Sox earlier this season.

Sanchez Open To Return To Giants

Infielder Freddy Sanchez is open to returning to the Giants in 2010 if the situation works for both parties.

San Francisco has an $8.1 million club option on the second baseman's contract for next season.

Adding to the uncertainty surrounding Sanchez's future is the fact that he'll undergo arthroscopic surgery next week to repair a torn meniscus in his troublesome left knee.
