Jeff Moorad is on the verge of completing his long-awaited purchase of the Padres, according to John Moores, the team's majority owner.
The 100 percent sale of the franchise -- at an estimated $530 million -- that Moores has held since late 1995 is on the agenda for approval by the owners at this Thursday's first joint quarterly meeting of the year.
"It's 100 percent done," Moores said. "I couldn't be more pleased. Jeff's remaining payment of all cash went into escrow in mid-December. I remain impressed that Jeff has done everything he said he would do."

Cubs executive Jed Hoyer, who acquired first baseman Anthony Rizzo from the Padres at the end of last week, admitted that he rushed the youngster to the Major Leagues while with San Diego.
Hoyer left the Padres for the Cubs this offseason.
Rizzo arrived in the summer at 21 years old, had three hits, including a home run, in his first two starts, and then really struggled.
Hoyer let on that he probably rushed Rizzo to the big leagues, but that's what happens in San Diego, where the desperation for offense can lead to poor decisions.

The Cubs have acquired first baseman Anthony Rizzo from the Padres.
Chicago added Rizzo in a deal that sends right-hander Andrew Cashner to San Diego.
Rizzo batted .331 with 34 doubles, 26 home runs and 101 RBIs in 93 Triple-A games last season. He had a very solid 1.056 OPS.
He struggled in his callup to the Padres, batting .141 in 128 at-bats, but it was the 22-year-old's first exposure to the big leagues.
The Cubs also get right-hander Zach Cates, 22, who pitched at Single A last season, in the trade.

Having traded right-hander Mat Latos to the Reds for a host of players, the Padres are nearly done building their roster for 2012.
San Diego also fortified their lineup by acquiring outfielder Carlos Quentin from the White Sox last week.
"We're getting close," Padres general manager Josh Byrnes said.
The Padres could still add a late-inning reliever and have to decide if they're going to hold onto first-base prospect Anthony Rizzo.
