Peavy Wants Gonzalez On White Sox

White Sox pitcher Jake Peavy wants to see the team make a play for former teammate Adrian Gonzalez, according a report.

"I want Adrian to be my teammate over here," Peavy told CBS Sports.

The Padres are believed to have made Gonzalez available for quite some time.

"That's really what we need, a big left-handed hitter," according to one unnamed club source. "They're saying Kenny [Williams] would give anything to get him, maybe even [second baseman Gordon] Beckham."

Gonzalez '100 Percent Committed' To Padres

Adrian Gonzalez will be a free agent in 2011 when he will likely be offered a nine-figure contract from a big market team, but until then his heart is with the Padres.

?I am 100 percent committed to this organization,? Gonzalez said Wednesday after arriving at the Padres spring training camp.

?My focus is on the Padres. I want to win as a San Diegan. San Diego deserves a champion, either us or the Chargers. The focus should be on winning a championship for San Diego.?

NL GM: Gonzalez Will Be Available At Deadline

The Padres are sending mixed signals regarding Adrian Gonzalez's future.

A rival National League general manager believes that Gonzalez will be made available midway through the 2010 season.

"He'll be available at the trading deadline. That's when the next push will come, and if it's a good deal, it would be hard to say no, given that they know they can't sign him," the GM said.

San Diego Still Hopes To Keep Gonzalez

Recent reports have indicated that the Padres are more likely to trade Adrian Gonzalez than sign him to a long-term deal, but general manager Jed Hoyer says otherwise.

"The team's position with regard to Adrian has not changed at all," Hoyer said in an e-mail to the Boston Herald.

"We are excited to have him under contract for the next two seasons. He is a great player who fits our city, team and payroll remarkably well. We have had, and will continue to have, dialogue with Adrian's representatives about keeping him in San Diego long term.

"It is still early in that process and attempting to draw conclusions in the middle of any negotiation is an inexact science."

The Padres have Gonzalez under contract for the next two season and owe him just $10.25 million.
