Chipper: Peavy 'Perfect Fit' For Braves

Braves' third baseman Chipper Jones believes that pitcher Jake Peavy, whom the Padres are shopping, is a perfect fit for his team's staff.

Jones hopes Braves' GM Frank Wren can finalize a deal for the 2007 NL Cy Young Award winner.

"If his arm is sound, this guy?s one of the best in the game," Jones said of Peavy.

"He?s still got his peak years ahead of him, and we?d have him four or five years," Jones added. "That?s a bonus. He?s got four years to win here, four years to see how nice it is to play so close to home, four years for our fans to make an impression on him that this is a nice place to be, and hopefully we?d be able to keep him past four years.

"Getting that piece of the [offseason] puzzle taken care of would be a tremendous feather in our cap."

Agent: Prior Wants To Pitch For Padres

Mark Prior, who had shoulder surgery more than four months ago, is starting to play catch again and wants to pitch for the Padres next season.

He will declare for free agency after the World Series, having signed a one-year deal with San Diego last December worth $1 million.

"We would definitely be interested in the Padres," said agent Josh Boggs said. "It's a situation where I'm sure he would love the opportunity to come back with the Padres.

"But they [Padres] will have to express interest. Hopefully they're interested in us. We're interested in any team that has reciprocal interest in Mark."

Prior, who never pitched for the Padres in 2008, is a native of San Diego.

Peavy Wants No-Trade Clause In Deal

Padres' pitcher Jake Peavy doesn't know where he'll end up this winter, but he definitely wants a no-trade clause regardless.

"Anywhere he goes," said agent Barry Axelrod, "we're going to have to have a full no-trade. That's a position we would take."

Peavy has full no-trade rights through 2010 stemming from the three-year extension the Padres gave him last December.

But in 2011, he can be traded without his consent to fourteen teams, and in 2012-13, he can block a trade to only eight clubs.
