Todd Walker Wins Arbitration Case

Padres second baseman Todd Walker won his arbitration case Wednesday, getting a raise from $2.5 million to $3.95 million.

The Padres offered $2.75 million to Walker, who joined them in a trade with the Cubs on July 31. "You don't want to go through something like that," Walker said. "It was painful. It worked out and we feel very lucky."

Khalil Greene's Finger Still Sore After Injury

Khalil Greene's left middle finger is still sore six months after he injured it. The Padres shortstop insists it's not an issue.

Greene checked into camp Monday, two days ahead of the reporting date for position players. "It's still sore when I swing," Greene said. "It's in a loosening phase. It's hard to gauge because all the weather has been sub-50 degrees. When it was warm, it felt good ... There's still some sense of soreness, but it's not major. It's about normal."

A Marine who lost a finger on his left hand while serving in Iraq has agreed to terms with the Padres, the team said Monday.

Right-hander Cooper Brannan will report to minor league spring training March 1. The 22-year-old injured his left hand during a second tour of duty Iraq. Team spokesman George Stieren said Brannan lost his left pinky. The team planned to announce the signing at a news conference Tuesday at Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego.
