Padres Sign David Wells

David Wells is back for another year.

The 43-year-old Wells, who said he was going to retire after the 2006 season, signed a one-year contract with the Padres on Tuesday.

A native of San Diego, Wells was a combined 3-5 with a 4.42 ERA in 13 starts between the Red Sox and Padres last season. He was acquired from the Red Sox on August 31 for minor league catcher George Kottaras and went 1-2 with a 3.49 ERA in five starts for San Diego.

Charges Against Peavy Dropped

Jake Peavy's disorderly conduct charge was dismissed after the San Diego Padres pitcher apologized for a confrontation with a security officer when he double parked to unload baseball gear at Mobile Regional Airport.

Peavy was arrested in his hometown after he parked in front of the airport entrance Jan. 4. The 25-year-old player was taking equipment on a church mission to help children in the Dominican Republic.

MLB To Honor Jackie Robinson's 60th Anniversary

Baseball will honor the 60th anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier when the Padres play at the Dodgers on April 15.

A ceremony will take place on the field before the game. Robinson played his first game for the Brooklyn Dodgers on April 15, 1947.
