Pirates' Wilson Wants To Renegotiate Contract

Pirates shortstop Jack Wilson has approached the team about renegotiating the option year on his contract.

Before the 2006 season, Wilson signed a four-year, $24.4 million deal, and a team option for 2010 is worth $8.4 million. He is willing to take a lower salary to stay in Pittsburgh.

"What we have going here ... this is probably the best team I've been around," said Wilson. "There's a future here."

Jose Tabata's 43-Year-Old Wife Implicated In Abduction

A woman suspected of abducting a 2-month-old girl Monday near Tampa, Fla., is the wife of Pirates Minor League outfielder Jose Tabata. Tabata was traded by the Yankees in the Xavier Nady deal last summer and is one of the Pirates' top prospects.

Amalia Tabata Pereira, 43, allegedly abducted the infant Monday afternoon and turned the child, who was safe, in to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday.

"I was shocked to be told today that my wife has been arrested for kidnapping," Tabata, 20, said in a statement. "I am hurt, frustrated and confused by her actions. I have and will continue to cooperate with law enforcement officials in any way that I can. Until I have all of the facts, I cannot comment any further."
