Hamels Knows Contract Will Work Itself OutCole Hamels will likely be a free agent after this season as he is not expected to come to terms with the Phillies on an extension before Opening Day. "I haven't been thinking about it at all," Hamels said. "It's going to linger until something happens. Fortunately ... things will take care of itself." Hamels continues to say he does not have a deadline for a deal. "I guess I've got until the start of Spring Training next year [to sign]," Hamels said. "I guess that's kind of what it's down to.
