Hamels Earns First Victory In New York

Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels accomplished something on Saturday that he had never before in his career -- he won a game in New York.

Hamels, one of the best left-handers in the game, had never beaten the rival Mets on the road before.

"You've got to have it sometime," Hamels said after the 5-2 victory.

"He's going to win some more," manager Charlie Manuel promised. "He's going to win a few more. You and I are going to get to watch him."

Hamels allowed seven hits, two runs and struck out 10 in seven innings. He retired the final 11 batters he faced to improve to 7-1 with a 2.38 ERA in 10 starts since April 5.

The Opsera is a statistic RealGM's Chris Reina created in order to objectively rank teams by how well they hit (OPS) and pitch (ERA).

In order to determine a team's Opsera, we take their OPS, multiply that number by 10 to move the decimal point over one place to the right and then subtract the team's ERA from that number.
