Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels accomplished something on Saturday that he had never before in his career -- he won a game in New York.
Hamels, one of the best left-handers in the game, had never beaten the rival Mets on the road before.
"You've got to have it sometime," Hamels said after the 5-2 victory.
"He's going to win some more," manager Charlie Manuel promised. "He's going to win a few more. You and I are going to get to watch him."
Hamels allowed seven hits, two runs and struck out 10 in seven innings. He retired the final 11 batters he faced to improve to 7-1 with a 2.38 ERA in 10 starts since April 5.

The Opsera is a statistic RealGM's Chris Reina created in order to objectively rank teams by how well they hit (OPS) and pitch (ERA).
In order to determine a team's Opsera, we take their OPS, multiply that number by 10 to move the decimal point over one place to the right and then subtract the team's ERA from that number.
Below are the final rankings through Thursday, May 26th's games:
Last week's ranking is in parenthesizes
1. (1) St. Louis Cardinals 4.41
2. (2) New York Yankees 4.19
The Yankees have won a few games with small ball as of late, but they still lead the majors in home runs by nearly 20 dingers.
T3. (3) Cleveland Indians 3.92
-- (4) Atlanta Braves 3.92
5. (7) Philadelphia Phillies 3.88
Their offense has woken up since Chase Utley returned to the lineup even though the second baseman is hitting just .143/.200/.357 with two hits in four games.
6. (6) Florida Marlins 3.79
7. (10) Los Angeles Angels 3.76
8. (T8) Texas Rangers 3.73
9. (18) Boston Red Sox 3.71
The Red Sox jumped up nine spots thanks to a tremendous week. They went 5-2 and outscored their opponents by an astounding 57-23 margin.
10. (5) Oakland Athletics 3.63
The As still have one of the best pitching staffs in the league statistically despite all their injuries, but their bats havent done much of anything. They hit just .238 as a team (25th) and are tied with the Mariners for the fewest home runs in the game (27).
11. (14) Milwaukee Brewers 3.62
12. (11) Toronto Blue Jays 3.50
Jose Bautista has 10 home runs this month despite missing five games and earning 13 free passes. Since April 13, he hasnt gone more than four games without a homer.
13. (13) San Francisco Giants 3.49
14. (T8) Tampa Bay Rays 3.46
15. (15) Colorado Rockies 3.33
16. (17) Arizona Diamondbacks 3.26

19. (27) Seattle Mariners 3.01
20. (20) San Diego Padres 2.96

T27. (26) Los Angeles Dodgers 2.61
