Phillies Place Madson On 15-Day DL

The Phillies placed Ryan Madson on the 15-day disabled list Friday, allowing the reliever time to recover from a broken right big toe. Madson, who sustained the injury after Wednesday's game, was placed on the list retroactive to Thursday.

Philadelphia recalled Antonio Bastardo from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to replace Madson, who began the year as the team's closer. The 29-year-old, right-handed Madson is 1-0 with four saves and a 7.00 ERA in nine appearances this season.

Rival Exec: Why Wouldn't Phillies Invest In Pitching?

There has been a lot of discussion on Ryan Howard's extension, particularly how it affects Philadelphia's flexibility in the future.

The Phillies traded Cliff Lee last offseason as part of the Roy Halladay trade because of cost concerns.

"If you have money to spend," said one rival talent evaluator told Buster Olney, "why wouldn't you have invested in the pitching?"

Rollins Isn't Worried About Next Contract

There has been a lot of talk about futures in Philadelphia, but don't count shortstop Jimmy Rollins among those concerned about their next contract.

Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard signed a five-year, $125 million extension on Monday, which many speculate could keep the team from re-signing outfielder Jayson Werth this coming winter.

Rollins will become a free agent after the 2011 season.

"If you're a guy that is a one-team guy it's because the opportunity allows you to do that," Rollins said. "It means you're pretty good, I guess. It means you're important to the team. Of course, if you're pretty good you can switch teams a lot and make a lot of money, too. Some guys choose that."

Rollins said a few years ago that he could see himself finishing his career in San Francisco or Oakland, where he grew up.

"We weren't good then," Rollins pointed out about the Phillies. "We're good now. As long as we're good, I'm good."
