Rollins: Phils Are Team To Beat In NL

After predicting a division title for the Phillies last season, shortstop Jimmy Rollins said on Tuesday that they are the "team to beat" this year, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

"Some guys don't like it," Rollins said, "but I like having that added pressure on me. It helps me perform better."

Lidge Looks Good For Opening Day

Less than a month after having surgery on his right knee, pitcher Brad Lidge appears to be ready for Opening Day in Philadelphia, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

"I still need to generate more velocity," Lidge said Monday. "My arm speed is not where it needs to be. But I've got three more outings this week, and I believe it will get a lot better. Those last couple ticks of velocity can only come in a [major-league] game."

The Phillies would prefer to be more cautious with his health.

"He looks healthy, and his stuff is good," Assistant GM Mike Arbuckle said. "Whether he'll be ready for opening day is still to be determined, but there's a chance. The medical people and [pitching coach] Rich Dubee still need to weigh in."

Lidge To Throw Off Mound Monday

New Phillies' closer Brad Lidge will throw off the mound on Monday, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

It's been two weeks since Lidge had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee. The original time frame of three to six weeks of recovery time remains in place, still leaving open the possibility that he'll be ready for the season opener.

"He's a little ahead of schedule," pitching Coach Rich Dubee said. "I don't know how many innings he's going to need [to be ready for the season opener]. He'll need to get out there, that's for sure. We'll get to that point when he's feeling right, and he's thrown off the mound a few times."
