Report: Inge To Sign With Athletics

Brandon Inge has agreed to sign a contract with the Athletics, according to a person with knowledge of the talks.

Oakland has been mixing and matching at third base so far this season.

Inge was released by the Tigers on Thursday after batting .100 (2 for 20) with one home run and two RBIs in nine games this season.

Inge Definitely On A's Radar

There is a chance that the Athletics will look to sign Brandon Inge, who was released by the Tigers this week.

Inge can't sign with a team until he clears release waivers and that won't likely happen until after the weekend.

The Orioles and Twins have also been linked to Inge, but the A's need help at third base as much as anybody.

A's Call Up Jarrod Parker To Start

The Athletics have called up prospect Jarrod Parker to start Wednesday against the White Sox.

Oakland acquired Parker last December as part of the deal that sent Trevor Cahill to Arizona.

This season at Triple-A Sacramento, Parker has a 2.18 ERA and 21 whiffs in 20.2 innings.

Colon Could Become Trade Target

Bartolo Colon is off to an excellent start, posting a 2.63 ERA in his first four starts.

The right-hander threw 38 consecutive strikes for the Athletics this past week.

He could be one of the most sought-after trade targets at midseason, and maybe sooner rather than later.

Colon's base salary for this season is just $2 million, far less than some of the alternatives that will pop up on the market, and Oakland's front office is clearly devoted to the idea of building the team for 2015-16.

Selig: A's, Rays Need New Ballparks

Bud Selig insists the Athletics and Rays must have new ballparks to be able to compete.

Speaking on Thursday to the Associated Press Sports Editors, Selig provided no timetable for deciding the Bay Area dispute between the A's, who would like to build a ballpark in San Jose, and the Giants, who won't give up their territorial rights there.
