A's Might Get Nothing Out Of Holliday Deal

The Matt Holliday experiment in Oakland has not gone according to plan.

"Then they've got issues," said an executive of one contender. "Every day that goes by when he doesn't hit any home runs, the price [they can ask in a deal] goes down. So do they just try to [dump] the money?

"Or suppose they wind up keeping him all year. Do they decide not to offer him arbitration to get the [compensation] picks? Do they say, 'We can't risk paying this guy $13 million next year just to get those picks?' So this could get really interesting."

Giambi Finally Hits First Homer Of Season

Oakland slugger Jason Giambi finally hit his first home run of the season on Saturday against Tampa Bay.

The homer was the 396th of his carer, according to the Associated Press, and came in the seventh inning of the Athletics' 5-2 win.

"I just was more worried about taking good at-bats," said Giambi. "We went on that road trip ... and I just got beat up a little bit. Then you start pressing and you start trying to swing harder to make up for it. Hopefully I can keep working and relax up there now."

Holliday Already Looking Over To Yankees

Matt Holliday was asked about possibly joining the Yankees while the A's were in New York.

"I think a little bit, as a human being, you can't help but to think that if the Yankees are interested I would definitely consider it," Holliday said, as reported on an NYPost.com blog. "I wouldn't be looking around if I were under contract for four years, but I think I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't be interested, especially with the Yankees being such a storied franchise."

RealGM Note: Johnny Damon and Hideki Matsui will both be free agents following this season and so the Yankees will likely look at Holliday as a power right-handed bat for left field.
