A's Cease Efforts To Relocate To Fremont

Athletics owner/managing partner Lew Wolff issued a statement on Tuesday regarding to team's efforts to relocate to the Fremont area.

"After much consideration, today we informed Mayor Wasserman and City Council members that the Oakland Athletics will cease efforts to relocate our franchise to the City of Fremont.

"I expressed my regrets and gratitude, especially to those people who shared our vision and spent endless hours in support of our proposal. However, it became increasingly clear that our ballpark project faced significant delays ahead and I could not, in good conscience, continue to lead our team down this path.

"My focus now is on baseball with Spring Training and the opening of the 2009 season. I am extremely excited about the team's prospects this year.

"My goal and desire for the organization is to determine a way to keep the team in Northern California. This goal has not changed."

Could Mulder Return To Oakland?

Free-agent pitcher Mark Mulder could be a potential addition to Oakland's pitching staff before the end of spring.

He has had shoulder issues for several years, and has been pitching in Arizona in hopes that he'll be able to work out for interested teams in the near future.

The Athletics are expected to be one of the interested teams when Mulder finally opens up a workout to suitors.

"I'd love to be out there, but what I was doing the last couple of years wasn't fair to me and it wasn't fair to the Cardinals, and I'm not going to do that to another team," Mulder said. "I'm not going to say I'm ready to roll and sign with someone until I can repeat side sessions and repeat them again with no issues, no doubt in my head, no setbacks."
