The New York Yankees Saturday acquired right-handed pitcher Kerry Wood and cash considerations from the Cleveland Indians in exchange for a player to be named later or cash.
Wood, 33, is 1-4 with eight saves and a 6.30 ERA in 23 relief appearances with the Cleveland Indians this season.
He has held opponents scoreless in nine of his last 11 appearances, striking out 10 batters in 9.2IP over the stretch.
Wood was reinstated off the 15-day disabled list Saturday, after being out since July 12 with a blister on his right index finger. He began the season on the disabled list with a strained right lat, suffered in spring training and was activated on May 7.

The Yankees remain on the verge of acquiring Lance Berkman from the Astros as the slugger has waived his no-trade clause to allow a move, according to sources.
The trade will likely be completed before Saturday's trade deadline.
Houston will pick up $4 million of the $7 million owed to Berkman this year and in his 2011 option, sources said.
New York will send two prospects to the Astros: reliever Mark Melancon and infielder Jimmy Paredes.
Berkman vetoed a trade to the White Sox earlier Friday, USA Today reported.
