Several major league scouts believe that the Yankees should have upped their bid and traded for Johan Santana this winter, according to the New York Daily News.
The Yankees might have a bright future with the young stable of talent they refused to deal in exchange for Santana, but scouts believe 2008 will be a rough season for the Bombers.
"I love their future," said one scout. "But if you think those young guys aren't going to take their lumps at times this season against American League lineups, you're dreaming."

Andy Pettitte will begin the season on the 15-day disabled list of the Yankees, but the team is hoping he will be able to make his debut next Saturday, according to the New York Post.
"Everything was good," Manager Joe Girardi said of Pettitte's 25-pitch bullpen workout Friday in Tampa. "He will pitch Sunday, and we will make our evaluation after that, how he comes out, and where we will slot him. But it puts him on schedule to pitch in the first rotation."
The DL stint is retroactive to March 21.
