Mets Trade Mike Jacobs To Blue Jays

The Mets have traded Triple-A infielder Mike Jacobs to the Blue Jays for a player to be named later.

Jacobs was with New York on Opening Day, but hit just .208/.296/.375 and was demoted to make room for Ike Davis.

Mets Wouldn't Part With Niese, Davis

The Mets may have been able to acquire an elite pitcher like Cliff Lee or Roy Oswalt via trade, but they weren't willing to part with pitcher Jonathan Niese or first baseman Ike Davis.

"Your farm has a big role in how good your team is going to be," Davis said. "It's tough to just buy free agents and trade all of your farm, because if one of those guys goes down, who do you got to fill in? It's give or take; if it's a player you can't pass up, you've got to go for it. But you can't just deal everybody and expect this one guy to make or break your team."

Mets Will Keep Coaching Staff Intact

The Mets will keep their coaching staff intact when they open a homestand Tuesday night against the Cardinals.

The organization decided against breaking the staff apart during discussions via conference call on Monday, according to two sources.

New York general manager Omar Minaya fueled speculation by refusing to issue votes of confidence on Sunday.

The Mets have not scored in their past 16 innings.

They are tied with the Marlins for third in the NL East, trailing the Braves by 7 1/2 games for first place.
