Mets' Perez Suffers Setback In Rehab

Mets pitcher Oliver Perez suffered a setback during his rehab assignment at Triple-A Buffalo and won't make his scheduled start Sunday.

An MRI revealed patellar tendinitis in Perez's right knee, according to MLB.com.

New York plans to send the pitcher to Florida on Sunday.

"All that stems from the knee," manager Jerry Manuel said. "He can't be consistent with his fundamentals."

Mets Trade Ramon Castro To White Sox

The Mets traded backup catcher Ramon Castro to the White Sox on Friday night.

New York's starting catcher, Brian Schneider, is ready to return from the disabled list and Omir Santos has impressed with a few game-winning hits.

"Right now, I really like what Santos has brought, and it would be difficult for me to see him not be a part (of us)," Mets manager Jerry Manuel said of Santos. "He's been good and he's been good for what I would say is kind of an extended period of time."

Delgado Doesn't Know When He'll Return

Mets first baseman Carlos Delgado can't guarantee when he'll be healthy enough to return to the field.

"I can't guarantee nothing," Delgado said at a fundraiser on Thursday night. "The most important thing is get better, get healthy so you can perform effectively. I think it's going to happen some time this year, but I can't guarantee nothing. I can't do that."

Delgado underwent surgery last week to repair an impingement in his right hip, bone spur and torn labrum.

"All I'm going to do is try to get healthy and try to be back. Then after that I'll deal with whatever else I have to deal with," he said in reference to whether or not the Mets will find someone to replace him in the meantime.
