Oliver Perez Pitching For Spot In Rotation

Mets manager Jerry Manuel says that Oliver Perez will start on Saturday against the Phillies, his last shot to remain in the team's starting rotation.

"I think it's important, him being one of my guys, that I give him every benefit of the doubt," Manuel said.

New York signed Perez to a three-year deal worth $36 million this winter, but he is 1-2 with a 9.31 ERA in four starts this season.

"I am looking at Philadelphia as a big outing for him. I'm hoping to find something," Manuel said.

Mets Release Freddy Garcia

The Mets have decided to release veteran pitcher Freddy Garcia after he allowed 10 runs in 11 innings for Triple-A Buffalo.

New York signed Garcia in the offseason to compete for the fifth spot in the team's rotation, but he never came close.

Mets Could Send Perez To The Bullpen

Oliver Perez lost his start against the lowly Nationals on Sunday, and the Mets could be looking to move him into the bullpen.

New York designated Casey Fossum for assignment on Sunday, a move that could setup the starters move to relief, according to the New York Post.

Perez has a 9.31 ERA, and Mets manager Jerry Manuel is "very concerned" about the pitcher.
