Garcia An Option For Both Yanks And Mets

Free agent pitcher Freddy Garcia could be coveted by both the Yankees and Mets later this summer, according to The Star-Ledger.

He hopes to sign with a team before the July 31 trade deadline. Coming off shoulder surgery, he could be ready to throw for scouts by the third week of July.

"I feel like I have a new shoulder," Garcia recently told his agent Peter Greenberg.

Reyes Throws Tantrum After Throwing Error

Mets' shortstop Jose Reyes had a public meltdown during the team's 3-1 win over the Yankees on Sunday, according to The New York Daily News.

With two outs in the seventh inning, Melky Cabrera hit an easy grounder to Reyes, but his throw to first was high and Carlos Delgado was pulled off the bag.

Jose Molina, the next batter, hit a fly ball to right field that ended the inning. However, as the final out took place Reyes slammed both his sunglasses and glove on the ground in a public display of frustration.

"I don't feel happy with the way I've played defense so far this year, so I've got 11 errors, so I don't feel happy," Reyes said later. "That's an easy play for me right there"

Interim Manager Jerry Manuel didn't feel the need to discuss the incident with Reyes.

Johan: I Can't Do It All

Johan Santana got a little testy after his most recent loss on Saturday to the Yankees, according to The New York Post.

He pitched well, losing 3-2, but his 3.01 ERA hasn't been enough to propel the Mets to the top of the NL East.

"All I can say is that I'm doing my job," said Santana. "Other than that, there's nothing else I can do. I can't go out there and do the things that my teammates have to do."

Santana is 7-7 this season.

"I don't know if he can pitch any better than how he's pitched [in these past five starts]," said manager Jerry Manuel. "Us not scoring runs puts a lot of stress on every pitch. He feels like he can't make a mistake."
