Mets Interested In Millar, Bay And Nady

The New York Mets are reportedly interested in first baseman Kevin Millar and outfielders Jason Bay and Xavier Nady, according to The Philadelphia Daily News.

General Manager Omar Minaya is interested in fortifying the team's roster with first baseman, leftfielders and righthanded relieve pitchers.

Pedro Up For Tuesday Start

Mets' starter Pedro Martinez appears ready to pitch for the team on Tuesday against the Giants, according to The New York Daily News.

He threw 63 of his 82 pitches for strikes on Wednesday night, allowing just two runs and striking out six in an appearance against Tampa Bay's farm team.

He has been out of the team's rotation since April 1 with a hamstring injury.

Mets' Alou Expects To Return Next Week

Outfielder Moises Alou expects to return to the lineup for the Mets next week, according to The New York Times.

He has missed time because of a calf injury and is eligible to come off the disabled list against the Padres next week.

"I play hard, I?m old, I?m beat up," Alou said Wednesday. "It?s true. It bothers me. It hurts. I want to be healthy so they don?t keep rubbing it in my face."

He last played on May 21 and only debuted this season on May 2 because of a hernia operation and an ankle injury during spring training.

He claims he was about 50 percent healed.
