Bob Nightengale of the USA Today reported that the New York Yankees are keeping a "close eye" on Francisco Liriano of the Minnesota Twins.

Similarly, the Twins are "keeping tabs" on Yankees prospects in case they decide to trade the 27 year old starting pitcher.

Morneau Not Talking To Ex-Teammate Crain

Twins first baseman Justin Morneau isn't talking to former teammate Jesse Crain, who left the team to sign with the White Sox this winter.

Jesse Crain, who pitched for the Twins for the past seven seasons, said he still hasn't received a call or text of congratulations from Morneau after signing his new contract.

"He never congratulated me; he's the one guy who didn't," Crain said. "Even [Michael] Cuddyer and [Denard] Span and all those guys, [Joe] Mauer, everybody did. But Morneau was the one guy who never did it."

Crain and Morneau, both born in Canada, were good friends and had a solid relationship in the clubhouse.

Mauer Brushes Off Concerns About His Knee

Joe Mauer is downplaying concerns about his troublesome left knee heading into spring training.

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire revealed Tuesday that the star catcher is taking shots in his knee to help lubricate the joint, which the catcher said was part of his recovery plan.

Mauer had surgery after last season to alleviate swelling that had bothered him for much of the year.

"It's more of a preventative thing, just to make sure I'm good to go for the season," Mauer said. "So it's really not that big of a deal, and I kind of wish it wasn't out there. But here we are."

Mauer Won't Catch Early In Camp

The Twins won't start Joe Mauer at catcher much early in spring training.

Mauer received a shot of medication Tuesday that general manager Bill Smith said will lubricate his surgically repaired left knee.

Minnesota plans to keep his early workload light.

"You're not going to see a lot of him behind the plate right now, doing the squatting," manager Ron Gardenhire said. "We're going to stay away from a lot of that."
