Twins Say They Are Happy With Morneau Instead Of Teixeira

Twins' GM Bill Smith recently commented on the Yankees' signing of Mark Teixeira, saying they are just fine with Justin Morneau.

"Good for Teixeira, good for the Yankees," Smith said. "What are you going to do? I like the guy (Justin Morneau) we've got (for $80 million) at first base."

Joe Mauer can become a free agent in 2010 and according to people in the know, the Boston Red Sox are already anxious to pursue the Twins' catcher.

The Twins have not discussed an extension with Mauer this winter.

Beltre Adds Twins To No-Trade List

The Minnesota Twins were one of the teams expected to pursue Adrian Beltre this winter. But when they attempted to investigate a possible deal, they discovered that he's added the Twins to a list of teams on his limited no-trade clause.

When a player sees a team showing public interest in trading for him, they will sometimes amend their no-trade to include that club and then use it as a bargaining chip down the road.
