Twins' center fielder Torii Hunter filed for free agency on Monday, immediately becoming one of the most prized players on the market.
The Twins have a 15-day window in which they can negotiate exclusively with Hunter, but all signs point to him hitting the open market Nov. 13.

The Minnesota Twins have exercised their $6 million option on closer Joe Nathan.
The Twins could have bought Nathan out for $1 million. But the right-hander's 160 saves and a 1.94 ERA over the past four years make his salary a bargain by market value. He turns 33 next month.
Last year, Yankees' closer Mariano Rivera and Mets' closer Billy Wagner each made $10.5 million. And seven other closers made as much or more than Nathan will make next year.

For as much pride as Torii Hunter takes in his performance on the baseball field, it's the work he does in the community that means the most to the center fielder.
Hunter was recognized for that work, along with his play this past season, when he was named the Marvin Miller Man of the Year by the MLB Players Association on Saturday.
The award is given annually to "the player in either league whose on-field performance and contributions to his community inspire others to higher levels of achievement."
"It's quite an honor," Hunter said in a webcast announcing the award on yahoo.com.
