Garza Returns To Minnesota

Three months after leaving Matt Garza off their Opening Day roster, the Twins brought their No. 1 pitching prospect back to the big leagues Thursday as a reliever and spot starter.

Garza, 23, will be available to pitch out of the bullpen tonight in Detroit, and he's expected to start one game of the doubleheader July 6 in Chicago.

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire had spoken of the need to add a reliever for this 10-day, 11-game road trip, but even he seemed surprised after relaying the news from General Manager Terry Ryan.

Hunter Might Accept Less To Stay a Twin

Hunter, during a radio interview Wednesday, expressed his preference for signing a contract extension now instead of waiting until the end of the season. He also indicated he might be willing to accept less money than he would get on the open market to remain with the Twins.

"I think I can surprise a lot of people," Hunter told KFAN's Dan Barreiro. "There's [no talks] going on, so you never know what I'm thinking.

Morneau Might Play Thursday

Twins first baseman Justin Morneau could return to the lineup in a couple of days, according to manager Ron Gardenhire.

"I was told the possibility of Wednesday or Thursday, if he feels up to it and can play," Gardenhire said. "We just have to see how Mourny is doing when he gets back here."

Morneau flew home to the Twin Cities on Monday after spending three days in a Florida hospital because of a bruised lung suffered Friday in a home plate collision with Marlins catcher Miguel Olivo.
