Bowden Has Two Deals On The Table

According to Jayson Stark, Jim Bowden reportedly has two teams he can do an Alfonso Soriano deal with right now, one is an American League team and the other is in the National League.

The Twins are reportedly the team from the AL, as the A's have dropped out of the running.

A's Become Latest Threat In Soriano Trade Rumors

Sources are saying that the Los Angeles Angels, Minnesota Twins and most recently, the Oakland Athletics have emerged as the finalists in the Alfonso Soriano sweepstakes.

It is unknown whether the A's would keep Soriano or re-package him in another deal. Oakland GM Billy Beane has a history of working three-way deals, but if the A's hope to contend this season, Soriano makes sense because Oakland's offense is strongly lacking.

Washington Nationals general manager Jim Bowden is expected to move Soriano today with a conclusion expected to push right up against the deadline.

Reds Acquire Kyle Lohse For Minor League Prospect Ward

The Twins and the Reds completed a trade on Monday that sent right-handed pitcher Kyle Lohse to Cincinnati in exchange for Minor League right-handed pitcher Zach Ward.

Lohse was 2-5 with a 7.07 ERA in 22 appearances for the Twins this season. A member of the Twins rotation at the start of the year, Lohse made eight starts before being demoted to Triple-A Rochester on May 17 after going 2-4 with an 8.92 ERA.

Twins general manager Terry Ryan had been shopping Lohse to other clubs since the demotion.

Ward, 22, went 7-0 with a 2.29 ERA and 95 strikeouts in 20 appearances -- 18 starts -- this season with the Class A Dayton Dragons of the Midwest League. Ward was the Reds' third-round selection in the 2005 First-Year Player Draft.

Twins Give Backup Catcher Redmond Two-Year Extension

The Minnesota Twins agreed to terms with backup catcher Mike Redmond on a two-year extension Thursday, with a club option for 2009.

The 35-year-old Redmond is one of the team's most popular locker room presences and has been backing up All-Star Joe Mauer throughout this season.

Mauer leads the majors in hitting with a .375 average, but Redmond is also doing a solid job on that front as a backup hitting .333 with eight doubles and 14 RBI in 29 games this season, most of the time playing in a day game after a night game.
