Rangers Acquire Matt Treanor

The Rangers have acquired catcher Matt Treanor from the Brewers in exchange for infielder Ray Olmedo.

Treanor suffered a bone spur in his right hip when he was with the Tigers last April and was put on the disabled list for the entire season.

"I guess I shouldn't be surprised," Treanor said. "I'm going to a good situation and, hopefully, it works out well for the Brewers, as well. I was just starting to get to really know the pitching staff, and I love the clubhouse here."

Treanor gives the Rangers some more depth at catcher.

Brewers, Mets, Twins, Marlins Scouting Lowell

The teams scouting Mike Lowell include the Mets, Marlins, Brewers and Twins.

His surgically repaired thumb appears fine, and a trade appears likely as the Red Sox don't want him stuck behind Adrian Beltre, Kevin Youkilis and David Ortiz. "He can still really hit, he can play first and can probably go to third once in a while.

If the Red Sox pay most of the $12 million, this guy is a valuable asset to any team,'' a scout told the Boston Globe.

Edmonds Wants Starting Spot With Brewers

Jim Edmonds is hoping for a starting role with the Brewers as the regular season nears.

"There's a lot of thinking going on right now," Edmonds said. "That's when I woke up the other day and was like, 'What am I doing here?' Those are the days you?ve got to come and grind it out."

Carlos Gomez is slated to be the starter, but manager Ken Macha likes what Edmonds has done so far in camp.

"He'll be a nice addition," manager Ken Macha said. "You've got three different guys that can play center field."
