Trevor Hoffman has been claimed on waivers by the San Francisco Giants, SI.com has learned, although it's unclear whether there's any chance the Brewers could strike a deal to send the closer back to the West Coast.
SI.com reported the Giants also had won the claim on Gary Sheffield before Sheffield was pulled back by the Mets.

The Brewers led the NL Central by two games at the beginning of July but have posted a 19-31 record since. The Brewers (61-66) are a season-high five games under .500.
"It's kind of the epitome of how our season has gone," Ryan Braun said of Thursday's 8-5 loss to Cincinnati. "It seems that if we don't take advantage of every opportunity that we have, the other team finds a way to win the game."

Trevor Hoffman has been claimed by an unnamed team and could be dealt, but Hoffman also said he likes Milwaukee and is open to returning in 2010.
?I?m settled in here,? he said. ?I?ve had a comfort level in Milwaukee from Day 1.?
Hoffman said he hadn?t heard anything about being claimed but added, ?We?re 12 (games) out. I don?t think I?m the only person put through waivers.?
