Manny Ramirez, Ben Sheets and Jason Varitek were among the 65 players who filed for free agency Thursday, the first day players were eligible to file.
Ryan Dempster, Milton Bradley and Joe Crede were other notables that filed.
Dempster is one player that hopes to remain with his current team.
"Absolutely. I love it here," Dempster said two days after the Cubs were swept from the NLDS. "I love the city. I love playing here. Hopefully, everything works out."

Ken Macha was hired Thursday as manager of the Brewers, according to an Associated Press report.
The 58-year-old Macha, who managed the A's to a pair of AL West titles, agreed to a two-year deal. He replaces Dale Sveum, who became interim manager when Ned Yost was fired with 12 games left in the regular season.

According to two reports, the Brewers are expected to hire Ken Macha as their new manager, according to an Associated Press report.
The Brewers called a news conference for Thursday afternoon to announce their new manager.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel said as early as Monday that the former A?s manager would be GM Doug Melvin?s pick. ESPN.com confirmed the hiring, citing two unnamed sources.
