Brewers Bolster Bullpen, Sign Tavarez

The Brewers bolstered their injury-plagued pitching staff Tuesday, signing righthander Julian Tavarez for the major league minimum, as reported by Yahoo.com.

Tavarez was designated for assignment by the Red Sox two weeks ago.

Former Brewer Hit By Lightning, Killed

Former Milwaukee Brewer Geremi Gonzalez died on Sunday night after being struck by lightning on a pier in Venezuela, according to WISN in Wisconsin.

Gonzalez last pitched with the Blue Jays in 2007, but the 33-year-old played for the Rays, Red Sox, Cubs, and Mets as well.

Brewers Expected To Sign Veteran Tavarez

The Brewers are close to signing veteran RHP Julian Tavarez, according to an Associated Press report.

GM Doug Melvin said the 35-year-old Tavarez, released by the Red Sox two weeks ago, worked out for Brewers staff in Washington on Sunday. Tavarez will accompany the team back to Milwaukee after Monday?s game and take a physical.
