Ungs became a free agent after spending the first seven years of his career in the Florida Marlins' organization. "I learned a lot with the Marlins, and I really enjoyed my time with them," Ungs said. "But, it all comes down to opportunity. The Marlins have a lot of good players, who, in two or three years, are going to be great players. They know they're not going to contend right now so they're willing to give those opportunities to the young guys they have a lot invested in and let them develop at the big-league level."
