Brewers' Sheets Comes Off DL To Out Duel Zambrano

Ben Sheets came off the disabled list to give the sagging Brewers a lift, and Ryan Braun hit a bases-loaded double during a four-run seventh inning Wednesday night in a 6-1 victory over the Cubs.

With just their fourth win in the last 15 games, the Brewers moved within 1 1/2 games of the first-place Cubs in the NL Central.

Sheets (11-4) worked six innings, allowing six hits and a run to get his first win since June 30 as Milwaukee kept Chicago right-hander Carlos Zambrano winless over the last month.

Brewers To Start Sheets Against The Cubs On Wednesday

The Brewers will bring ace right-hander Ben Sheets off the disabled list Wednesday to start against the Cubs.

Sheets, on the DL since July 16 with a sprained middle finger on his right hand and bothered by blisters, threw in the outfield before Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Cubs.

"He was fine," said manager Ned Yost, who announced after the game Sheets would start Wednesday.

Bonds Hits Home Run 761

Giants slugger Barry Bonds hit his 761st home run on Friday night, a towering shot off Milwaukee's Chris Capuano that bounced on the boardwalk before splashing into McCovey Cove.

Bonds knew it was gone the moment he connected with Capuano's 2-0 pitch. He let go of the bat, raised his arms and watched the ball disappear before trotting around the bases to a standing ovation.
