Brewers' Sheets To Start Opening Day Against Dodgers

Brewers ace Ben Sheets will pitch the season opener for the fifth time in his career.

The Brewers start April 2 against the Dodgers.

Sheets started four openers in a row before beginning last season on the disabled list and missing half the season with shoulder problems. He finished last year 6-7 with a 3.82 ERA.

"I just needed to see that he was healthy," manager Ned Yost said. "That's all I was worried about."

Brewers Send Hendrickson To Royals

The Royals on Tuesday acquired righthander Ben Hendrickson from the Brewers for catcher Maxim St. Pierre.

Hendrickson, 26, has posted a 1-10 record with a 7.41 ERA in 14 games over two seasons. He went 0-2 with a 12.00 ERA in four games last season.

Dodgers Trade Dessens To Milwaukee For Clark

The Dodgers resolved two roster issues on Tuesday, trading reliever Elmer Dessens to the Milwaukee Brewers for outfielder Brady Clark and cash considerations.

The right-handed Dessens, acquired in the Odalis Perez trade last season, was about to lose his bullpen spot to non-roster invitee Rudy Seanez. Clark, 34 next month, essentially replaces the injured Jason Repko as the fourth outfielder and takes away a spot that might have gone to James Loney or Larry Bigbie, although each could still make the Opening Day roster.
