Cubs, Dodgers May Be Nearing Dempster Deal

The Cubs and Dodgers are nearing a deal involving Ryan Dempster, according to a source.

Los Angeles has longed coveted a starting pitcher and Dempster is known to prefer a deal to the Dodgers.

The Cubs and Braves agreed to a deal for Dempster last week, but he didn't waive his no-trade rights.

Dodgers Acquire Shane Victorino

The Dodgers have acquired Shane Victorino from the Phillies for Josh Lindblom and Ethan Martin, according to a source.

Victorino was originally drafted by Los Angeles.

It was reported earlier Tuesday that Lindbolm, a reliever, would be in the deal.

Martin is a right-handed prospect taken in the first round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft.

Sources: Dodgers Nearing Deal For Shane Victorino

The Dodgers are close to acquiring Shane Victorino from the Phillies, according to sources.

Philadelphia would receive reliever Josh Lindblom and a player to be named in the deal.

Dempster Still Only Willing To Approve Trade To Dodgers

Ryan Dempster remains adamant that he will only approve a trade to the Dodgers, according to sources.

Dempster's service time gives him the ability to reject any deal before it is completed.

The Braves, who had a deal in place for Dempster last week, went in another direction by acquiring Paul Malholm from Chicago on Monday.

The Cubs are "trying to bend over backwards" to send Dempster to his preferred destination, one source said, but the two sides remain at an impasse.

Dodgers Targeting Victorino, Dempster, Soriano

The Dodgers have swung a pair of trades in the last week, adding Hanley Ramirez and Brandon League, but sources say they aren't done dealing.

Los Angeles is targeting Philadelphia's Shane Victorino, and both Ryan Dempster and Alfonso Soriano of the Cubs.

The trades could hinge on one another.

If the Dodgers land Victorino, they would rule out pursuing Soriano.
