Benched Kemp Meets With Torre

Dodgers manager Joe Torre met with outfielder Matt Kemp, who was not in the starting lineup for the third straight game, on Tuesday night.

Kemp was pressed into action when Manny Ramirez left in the top of the first inning with a hamstring injury.

Torre would not divulge what he and Kemp spoke about, saying nothing more than, "I thought the talk went well."

The pair were both mum on what triggered the player's benching.

"It was just a matter of deciding to play somebody else," Torre said.

Manny Day-To-Day With Hamstring Strain

Dodgers left fielder Manny Ramirez is day-to-day after injuring his right hamstring on Monday night.

He slid back into second base awkwardly on an unusual play in the first inning against the Giants and left the game.

Ramirez was initially listed as day to day, but the team won't know whether the injury is severe enough for Ramirez to be placed on the disabled list until he comes to the ballpark on Wednesday morning.

He will not play on Wednesday afternoon.

A-Rod Almost Was Drafted By Dodgers

Alex Rodriguez could have been a member of the Dodgers.

Until the mid-2000s, the team picking first in the draft alternated by league. In odd years, the worst American League team from the previous season picked first. The National League had the first pick in even years.

In 1992, Dodgers lost 99 games and Seattle lost 98. But the 1993 draft occurred in an odd year, meaning the Mariners picked first and took Rodriguez, even though he had told them he wanted to play in the N.L. The Dodgers took pitcher Darren Dreifort, who went 48-60 in a nine-year career.
