Colletti In Line For Extension

The Dodgers are negotiating a long-term contract extension with General Manager Ned Colletti, a high-ranking club official said.

The Dodgers have reached the postseason three times in four years under Colletti, whose current deal includes a mutual option for 2010.

Colletti, who said earlier this month he would "love" to return to the Dodgers next season, declined to comment on the negotiations.

"He's obviously done a very good job," Frank McCourt said. "The team has the best record in the National League. We're on the verge of clinching the division back-to-back [for the first time] in 31 years. I think that speaks for itself."

Manny Sits With Sore Hamstring

Manny Ramirez wasn't in the lineup for the Dodgers on Monday afternoon.

Pittsburgh defeated Los Angeles, again preventing them from clinching the National League West title.

"Manny felt something the other day similar to where Casey [Blake] has a little bit of a hammy. It happened Saturday but it doesn't seem too serious," manager Joe Torre said. "I had planned to give him a day and [play him Monday] ... he came in today still a little sore."

Dodgers Beat Pirates, Earn Playoff Berth

The Dodgers clinched a playoff berth on Saturday with an 8-4 victory over the Pirates.

It will be their fourth appearance in six years and their second consecutive under manager Joe Torre, who now has 15 postseason appearances under his belt.

Los Angeles leads the NL West, but are assured of at least the NL Wild Card.

"It's going to be a lot more if we can clinch this division and secure home-field advantage," Andre Ethier said.

The Dodgers lead the Rockies by six games in the division with just seven games to play.

Dodgers Could See $20M Spike In Payroll

A number of Dodgers will be eligible for salary arbitration this winter, which could cause the team's payroll to jump as much as $20 million.

The Dodgers have paid the quartet of Andre Ethier, Matt Kemp, Chad Billingsley and James Loney less than $5 million combined for their services in 2009.

In addition to the players listed above, Jonathan Broxton, Russell Martin, George Sherrill and Hong-Chih Kuo could earn raises as well.

Ethier and Kemp are expected to earn the most significant raises, according to agents, who speculated to the Los Angeles Times that Ethier could earn $7 million or so next season and Kemp around $4 million.

Torre Noncommittal About Second Basemen

Dodgers manager Joe Torre is noncommittal about who will start at second base down the stretch.

Ronnie Belliard, who Los Angeles acquired recently, has been starting over Orlando Hudson lately. Belliard played in place of Hudson for the second straight game on Sunday.

Torre pointed out that Hudson played in a majority of the team's games earlier in the season. In addition, Belliard has been hitting very well since he arrived on Aug. 30.

"I'm taking advantage right now with Ronnie swinging the bat the way he is to use him, and then decide what choices we're going to have going forward," Torre told the Los Angeles Times.

Asked whether Hudson remained the starting second baseman, Torre said Sunday "he's not starting today" and declined to comment about future games.
