Angels Expressing Interest In Ayala

According to a source with knowledge of the situation, the Angels are showing interest in free agent Luis Ayala.

It appears as though they are one of four teams interested in signing Ayala to a Major League contract.

Ayala signed a Minor League deal with the Yankees last February and had a big bounce-back year, posting a 2.09 ERA and a 1.268 WHIP in 56 innings (spanning 52 relief appearances).

Yankees, Angels Discussing Trumbo?

The Yankees and Angels are discussing the possibility of a trade involving first baseman Mark Trumbo, according to a source.

Los Angeles signed Albert Pujols earlier this offseason, making Trumbo somewhat expendable.

It's possible that New York could move reliever David Robertson in a deal for the young slugger.

Angels See Spike In Ticket Sales Following Pujols Signing

In the month since the Angels signed first baseman Albert Pujols and starting pitcher C.J. Wilson, the team has sold 3,000 new full season tickets packages.

That represents an increase of 50% from a similar period in 2011.

The Angels have also sold the equivalent of 2,300 full season tickets in mini-plans since adding Pujols.

December is "generally a slow time" for ticket sales, according to Robert Alvarado, the team's vice president of marketing and ticket sales.

"Sales usually peak the first two weeks of March and tail off in early April, so we're still on the upside of the bell curve," Alvarado said.

Angels, Kendrys Morales Reach Agreement

The Angels agreed to terms with injured first baseman Kendrys Morales on a 2012 contract Wednesday, allowing the two sides to avoid arbitration.

Morales hasn't played since breaking his left ankle while celebrating a game-winning home run on May 29, 2010. He had follow-up surgery last May, wiping out his entire 2011 season.

Los Angeles hopeful he will be able to play this season and have him penciled in as their designated hitter and cleanup hitter behind newly acquired superstar Albert Pujols.

Three Teams Pursuing Francisco Cordero?

Francisco Cordero, a veteran reliever, remains available on the closer market as the offseason winds down.

The Angels may be interested in Cordero. However, "they may only be in the periphery right now," according to a source.

The source noted that Cordero still has three or four teams interested in him.

The Reds don't plan to bring Cordero back.
