Angels, Saunders Agree On 2010 Pact

The Angels have reached a terms on a 2010 contract with pitcher Joe Saunders.

Saunders will earn $3.7 million next season, leaving just shortstop Erick Aybar and catcher Jeff Mathis as the club's only arbitration players.

Saunders, 28, went 33-14 the past two seasons.

Angels Sign Izturis To Three-Year, $10M Deal

The Angels have signed infielder Maicer Izturis to a three-year, $10 million deal, avoiding arbitration.

The contract provides a $500,000 signing bonus, with salaries of $2.6 million this year, $3.1 million in 2011 and $3.8 million in 2012.

Kazmir Working Hard To Bounce Back

Angels starting pitcher Scott Kazmir started working out just a week after the team was eliminated from the playoffs in the fall.

Kazmir, who struggled in 2009, has been doing about an hour of cardiovascular work. Also, looking to repeat his delivery more consistently, the pitcher has been working out with Lee Fiocchi. The trainer is trying to strength Kazmir's core.

He was 10-9 with a 4.89 ERA in 26 total starts between Tampa Bay and Los Angeles last season.

Mets Deal For Gary Matthews Jr.

The Mets have a deal to acquire Gary Matthews Jr. from the Los Angeles Angels according to an American League source. Matthews has two years and $23 million remaining on his contract and the Angels will be paying the vast portion of that money.

Matthews also gets $500,000 for being traded.

It is not yet known what the Angels will receive in return.

Angels Surprisingly Sign Pineiro

The Angels reached an agreement with free agent right-hander Joel Pineiro on a two-year deal worth $16 million, two sources told SI.com on Wednesday night.

The Mets and Dodgers had been considered the frontrunners for Pineiro.

Pineiro went 15-12 with a 3.49 ERA in 32 starts with the Cardinals in 2009.
