Matthews Steals Home Against Diamondbacks

Angels outfielder Gary Matthews Jr. pulled off a straight steal of home on Sunday against the Diamondbacks.

Matthews had just doubled home three runs in the fourth inning to give the Angels a one-run lead.

It was the first steal of home by a member of the Angels since since Orlando Cabrera turned the trick against the Dodgers on July 2, 2006.

Angels Aren't Interested In Pedro

The Angels aren't interested in signing free-agent pitcher Pedro Martinez, according to general manager Tony Reagins.

Reagins said that the club has "no interest" in the righty, and that the decision wasn't financial.

Baseball sources said that Martinez pitched well, but his fastball was clocked most often in the 85-mph range.

Angels Establish Award In Adenhart's Name

The Angels have set up an award in memory of pitcher Nick Adenhart, who was killed by a suspected drunk driver in April.

The team's "Pitcher of the Year" award has been graced with Adenhart's name.

Adenhart, 22, passed away in surgery hours after he made his season debut with six scoreless innings in a loss to the Athletics in Anaheim.
