Angels And Fuentes Agree To Deal

The Angels and left-hander Brian Fuentes have agreed to a two-year contract, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney.

Fuentes saved 30 games for the Colorado Rockies last season with a 2.73 ERA in 62 2/3 innings.

The deal is reportedly worth $17.5 million over two seasons.

RealGM Note: Fuentes 'deserved' to make $6.5 million in 2008 and had a Reina Value of +29%.

Could Angels Make Play For Matsui?

The Angels, after losing out on Mark Teixeira, could make a play for Hideki Matsui to bolster their lineup.

The Yankees have more players than needed in the outfield and at designated hitter. Xavier Nady is another name that has been floated around in trade rumors, and the Braves appear interested.

The signing of Teixeira has made Matsui, Nady and Nick Swisher somewhat expendable.

Will Angels Contact Padres About Peavy?

The Angels could soon make another attempt to engage the Padres in trade talks for pitcher Jake Peavy.

However, Los Angeles isn't likely to part with their young arms, which San Diego would undoubtedly want.

The Angels would probably have to give the Padres at least one of the following: Ervin Santana, Joe Saunders, Jered Weaver. That makes the likelihood of a trade relatively low.

Report: Boras Didn't Respond To Angels' Offer For Teixeira

Scott Boras, the agent for Mark Teixeira, reportedly did not respond to the offer Angel's owner Arte Moreno made to first baseman Mark Teixeira at the winter meetings.

A source familiar with the negotiations but not authorized to speak about them on the record, said Moreno grew frustrated that Boras didn't respond to the offer that was officially made on Dec. 9.

The Angels knew Boras was seeking a 10-year deal for Teixeira, and Moreno, not wanting to bid against himself, declined to sweeten his bid and ultimately retracted it on Sunday.
