Kansas City Royals Wiretap

Perez Gesture Upsets Royals

The Royals were angered by the animated gestures of Indians closer Chris Perez in the ninth inning of Monday's game.

Perez angered Kansas City's Jarrod Dyson for a gesture he made after striking out the outfielder.

After fanning Dyson on three pitches, Perez walked off the mound and waved his hand in front of his face to mock Dyson, who was unaware of the gesture until seeing it later on videotape.

"It's just terrible," Dyson said.

"Nobody told me about it. As soon as I got done with my at-bat, I went down to see where the pitch was because I felt like the pitch was in and I saw him do that and it (ticked) me off even more."

Royals Face July Decision On Broxton

The Royals will have a big decision to make regarding reliever Jonathan Broxton this July.

They could put him on the trade market or opt to sign him to a new contract as they did with outfielder Jeff Francoeur last August.

Broxton was coming off surgery when the Royals signed him for $4 million last November and he became the team's closer when Joakim Soria was hurt in spring training.

Royals Could Have Perez Back In June

The Royals could have catcher Salvador Perez back in the lineup within three weeks to a month.

Perez landed on the 60-day disabled list before the season because of a torn meniscus in his left knee.

"He's probably going to start catching side sessions after the weekend and starting taking BP on the field after the weekend so that's good he's getting close," manager Ned Yost said.

Angels, Nationals Discussing Bourjos

The Nationals and Angels have discussed a trade that would send outfielder Peter Bourjos to Washington, according to a Major League source.

The Royals, Diamondbacks and Blue Jays also have checked on the availability of Bourjos.

Los Angeles has a surplus of outfielders and Bourjos has seen less time since the arrival of prospect Mike Trout.

Valentine Rips Umpires After Loss To Royals

Bobby Valentine sat at his desk, legs crossed, slowly shaking his head after the game on Wednesday night.

Moments before, Valentine watched his team lose 4-3 to the Royals in a game featuring a couple of close calls that may (or may not) have shifted the final score.

"Guys battled their butts off," Valentine said. "That's all I know. F---ing umpire can't make a right call and get help to get it done. It's a damn shame is what it is."
